NAMR is hosts the "NODASS Ocean Big Data Competition," which aims to encourage and cultivate students to apply marine science knowledge and methodologies. By developing their capability to solve marine-related issues using ocean databases, the competition inspires students' interest in marine science, fosters independent research skills, and nurtures robust and diverse marine human resources for our nation. The inaugural competition was held in 2023, inviting teams of high school, vocational high school, and five-year junior college students led by their teachers. Starting from 2024, the competition was extended to universities and colleges, becoming the national "NODASS Ocean Big Data Competition for Universities, Colleges, and High Schools."
Participants first submit preliminary application materials, and selected qualifiers are invited to attend a training workshop. During the workshop, industry experts teach programming languages and data visualization techniques to help participants learn data processing and analysis. Following this, participants utilize data from the National Ocean Data Analysis and Sharing System (NODASS platform) to submit a semi-final proposal focused on a marine-related theme. After a review process, the semi-finalist teams are selected. These teams then revise their proposals based on the judges' feedback and submit their final project reports and presentation slides. On the day of the finals, teams deliver their presentations, and the judges select the final winning teams.

( The timeline is for reference only. The official announcement by the organizer shall prevail )
Participants who pass the initial qualification review will be selected to attend the workshop. Throughout the workshop, organizers will invite experts to teach participants in Python programming language and Microsoft Power BI visualization analysis software. This training will be integrated with the National Ocean Database and Sharing System (NODASS) platform's data database. Students will learn how to apply these skills in processing raw data and conducting data analysis.

The workshop of NODASS Ocean Big Data Contest
After completing the workshop, participating teams are required to utilize the NODASS platform's data database. They should submit preliminary contest proposals with topics related to marine science and technology, marine industry and engineering, marine ecology and conservation, marine policy and culture, and other marine affairs. The proposal should include the title, abstract, content, and references. These submissions will go through the preliminary evaluation, and the top 10 teams will be selected to advance to the final event.
Teams that have successfully advanced from the preliminary round are required to revise and submit their proposals based on feedback from the preliminary review committee. Additionally, teams must submit a final presentation file, with a maximum length of 20 pages. During the final event, there will be a presentation contest, with each team allocated 12 minutes for the presentation and an additional 3 minutes for Q&A. After the evaluation, three teams will be recognized as receiving the Great Prize, three as the First Prize, and four as Outstanding.
